Bangladesh: Hindu Families Attacked Over ‘Quran Insult’ Rumours

In another attack on the Hindu community in Bangladesh, A Muslim mob allegedly attacked an ISKCON temple in Bangladesh's Noakhali district .The incident took place after a Facebook rumour claiming ‘insult to Quran’ at a Durga Puja pandal went viral. Videos have emerged on social media where a mob of enraged Muslims are seen pelting stones and vandalising at makeshift Durga Puja pandals in Bangladesh and attacking Hindu families in Bangladesh’s Chandpur area. This attack has come a few hours after Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina assured the Hindu community that those who attacked Hindu temples will be hunted down. She also assured the community that they have equal rights to celebrate their festivals and stressed that the community should treat Bangladesh as their home. "ISKCON temple and devotees were violently attacked today by a mob in Noakhali, Bangladesh. Temple suffered significant damage & the condition of a devotee remains critical. We call on the Government of Bangladesh to ensure the safety of all Hindus and bring the perpetrators to justice," ISKCON said in a tweet. On other hand, Muslim extremists took to the streets and vandalized temples in Chandpur’s Hajiganj, Chattogram’s Banshkhali, Chapainawabganj’s Shibganj and Cox’s Bazar’s Pekua and brutally attacked the Hindu devotees. 150 Hindu families were attacked. At least three Hindus have reportedly lost their lives in the ensuing ruckus.
