BJP says, Nation First, Party Next, Self Last But other hands, Congress says, Family First, Family centric Party Second... it's a bitter truth. If we want to preserve democracy in our country, we must establish internal democracy in politics. Since that did not happen in the past, our country could not achieve desired results post-independence. The party which came to power immediately after Independence has abolished internal democracy in the party. It has become family-centric. A party which has failed to preserve its own internal democratic structure, can never preserve the country's democracy. The Congress faces a structural dilemma on several fronts — organisational weakness, ideological stagnation and shrinking social support. At one time, it was a democratic party with a formidable organisation that ran an effective political machine, distributing patronage in exchange for electoral support. From the 1970s onwards, party organisation in most States degenerated severely. This was mainly because Indira Gandhi, who had very little use for the institutional structure or the framework of the party, made systematic efforts to change it into a centralised and family-centered political organization. From then on no attention was given to the reorganization and regeneration of the Congress. On, 16th Oct , For the first time, Congress President Sonia Gandhi seemed to address the matter of “unity” or lack thereof at the Congress Working Committee meeting. She said, “The entire organization wants a revival of the Congress. But this requires unity and keeping the party’s interests paramount. Above all, it requires self-control and discipline.” At today's key Congress meeting, Sonia Gandhi has underlined her position as a "full-time and hands-on Congress President" as she calls for unity in the party. Means, Over the decades, there were neither hardware nor software up-gradation versions in the structure and narratives of the Congress Party rather letting the control, management and identity attachment to one family which by computer language INC the first generation.
