Nagaland is used as a prime conduit route by drug traffickers as the state is located in close proximity with the Golden Triangle of the drug world, especially with it sharing borders with Myanmar. Conventionally, the Golden Triangle is a region between the borders of Myanmar, Laos and Thailand.Recently , Narcotic Cell Police Station of Nagaland Police seized approx 48.14 kg of smuggled Gold worth approx Rs 22,78,46,620 cr from a vehicle on Kohima-Imphal National Highway. Seizure was made on October 3 morning at interstate Narcotic check point at Khuzama in Kohima. The gold bars weighing approximately 166 grams each were packed neatly in 29 packets. Addressing a press conference, state CID and the narcotics cell, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Sandeep Tamgadge said that recovered the smuggled gold hidden inside the cover of gear lever of the vehicle, packed neatly in 29 packets, each packet containing 10 gold bars with the total weight of the gold bars was 48.14 Kg and worth over Rs 22.78 crore. He informed that this seizure is the state's single biggest capture of the smuggled bullion. Two persons -- Saurabh Singh and Pawan Kumar , both residents of Uttar Pradesh, have been arrested. Besides the smuggled gold, the state police also confiscated 552 grams of illegal contraband suspected to be heroin and about 12 Kg opium at the same checkpoint, while another 532 grams of suspected heroin were seized from another location on the highway within the last 48 hours. Seven persons have been taken into custody in connection with the cases, police said. The total value of the seized illegal drugs is estimated to be worth over ₹4 crores in the international market.
