Byju’s has paused its association with Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan following his son Aryan Khan’s arrest in a drug case in Mumbai. People aware of the matter said that the edtech startup has over the last few days pulled ads featuring the actor despite advance bookings, after facing backlash on social media platforms like Twitter. Netizens have taken to the social media platform to question SRK’s association with a platform solely for kids, when his own son Aryan Khan is being questioned by the Narcotics Control Bureau for allegedly being involved in consumption of drugs. SRK’s association with Vimal was also brought up amidst this, where users claimed that the actor promoted ‘cancer causing’ pan masala initially, and with his son now under questioning by the NCB, making a career out of Byju's remains questionable. While SRK is the face of several leading brands like Hyundai, LG, Dubai Tourism, ICICI Bank and Reliance Jio, Byju’s was one of the largest sponsorship deals for the actor.Byju’s SRK deal is pegged at an annual fee of Rs 3-4 crore, two people aware of the matter said. SRK has been a brand ambassador for the company since 2017.
