Meghalaya : HNLC leader Chesterfield Thangkhiew dies in ‘retaliatory’ police firing

 

 

 

Surrendered Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) Chesterfield Thangkhiew died on Friday in a retaliatory firing by Meghalaya police in Shillong. Chesterfield Thangkhiew, a former HNLC leader, was assassinated in the early hours of Friday at his home in Shillong’s Mawlai-Kynton Massar. HNLC militants detonated an IED at Laitmukhra in Shillong on Tuesday, injuring two people, one of them was a lady. In a joint team of East Jaintia Hills police and East Khasi Hills police raided the house of surrendered HNLC leader Chesterfield Thangkhiew on Friday at Kynton Massar in Mawlai in connection with the recent blasts in the state.
