Khel Ratna now called the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award: PM Modi

India's highest sporting honour Khel Ratna Award, which was named after former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, was rechristened in the honour of hockey wizard Dhyan Chand following the admirable performance of both men's and women's hockey teams in the Tokyo Olympics. Dhyan Chand is regarded as one of the greatest hockey players of all time. India had dominated hockey for decades on the world stage and they were invincible at the Olympics. Dhyan Chand had played key roles in winning gold medals for India at the 1928, 1932 and 1936 Olympics.
