National Handloom Day is celebrated every year on 7 August. The day is celebrated to honour the contributions of the handloom weaving community in the socio-economic development of India. It is also observed to raise awareness about India's handloom heritage, to protect it, and to empower the handloom weavers and workers with greater and better opportunities. The Indian handloom products are acknowledged worldwide for their striking patterns and intricate detailing. The northeastern region of India is a captivating cultural mosaic of rich heritage and exceptional biodiversity. The linguistic diversity, and distinct cultures and heritage, gets reflected through Northeast products made of handloom. Union Minister Piyush Goyal tweeted," Our Country, our Heritage and our Handlooms: Saluting the weavers & artisans who help preserve India’s cultural heritage through handlooms".
