Arunachal Pradesh: Harvest festival of Adi tribe, Solung, begins

Solung is an annual agro-based festival celebrated in the first week of September after the sowing of seeds and transplantation, and ritual offerings are made for the protection of crops against epidemics and bestowing of bumper harvest. Ponung songs and dances are performed by womenfolk during the festival. Arunachal Governor Dr B D Mishra and CM Pema Khandu have extended heartiest greetings to the people of the State on the eve of Solung, the most popular festival of the Adi community. CM Khandu also said that despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the spirit and energy of Solung will not dampen, and called everyone to join the celebrations. He, however, requested the revelers to follow COVID appropriate behaviour, so that the spread of the virus is avoided.
