Amidst the Covid-19 related restrictions and dealing with the serious topographical hurdles and challenges, Manipurs Imphal will be the fourth capital city in the mountainous northeastern region expected to come on the Indian railway map .NFR Chief Public Relations Officer Guneet Kaur said that the NFR (Construction) organisation is executing the Jiribam-Imphal new broad gauge railway line (111 km) project at an estimated cost of Rs 12,264.15 crore and the target date for completion of the project is December 2023. Earlier The North-East Frontier Railways (NFR), which has already connected Assam's main city Guwahati (adjoining capital Dispur), Tripura capital Agartala and Arunachal Pradesh's Naharlagun (adjacent to capital city Itanagar), is laying tracks to connect the capital cities of two more north-eastern States –Mizoram and Nagaland.
