After a gap of eight years, the Meghalaya state government approved the amendment of a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for implementation of the BharatNet Project in Meghalaya.The decision was made during a cabinet meeting chaired by the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma.The project aims to facilitate the delivery of e-governance, e-health, e-education, e-banking, Internet and other services to the rural parts of the state.
The tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Department of Telecommunication, Govt of India, IT department, Govt of Meghalaya and Bharat Broadband Network Ltd (BBNL) on October 14, 2013.
