Manipur: Two Muslim convicts arrested, brown sugar worth Rs 90 crore seized

Manipur Police on Wednesday busted a brown sugar manufacturing laboratory which was running at the residence of a policeman at Yairipok Tuhihal in Manipur’s Imphal East district. The policeman identified as Md. Mujibur Rahman, 42 years old, was serving as head constable at Tamenglong district. Imphal East SP N Herojit said that the seized items include three bags of suspected brown sugar, 11 plastic bags containing opium (kani), two plastic bottles of Ammonium Chloride (1 kg each), 250 litres of liquid for refining brown sugar etc. The drugs are estimated to be around Rs 90 crore in the international market value. Accused Mujibur Rahman has disclosed that Md Firoj and Md Hero were transporters of the raw materials and distributors of refined brown sugar. Later, Firoj was then arrested from his residence.
