Eminent social worker Shakuntala Choudhary Receives National Honour !

 

 

Eminent social worker and Supervisor Of Kasturba Ashram, Gandhian Shakuntala Choudhary, received Vayoshestha Samman- National Awards For Senior Citizens 2021 from the central government. Notification from the Ministry of social justice and Empowerment of Government of India has informed that Shakuntala Choudhury will receive the award on 1st of October at the Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.Shakuntala Choudhury received Vayoshestha Samman- National Awards For Senior Citizens 2021. Shakuntala Choudhury is the only woman and senior citizen from Assam who spanned 100 years and earned this honor from the central government. As an honor, Shakuntala Choudhury will get 2.5 lakh rupees and a bag full of commemorating brochures and additional gifts. She was a close associate of Vinoba Bhave and had actively participated in the year-and-half-long ''Padayatra'' undertaken by the renowned Gandhian in Assam during the last leg of his Bhoodan movement. She was a part of his entourage and as his interpreter had conveyed his message to the people in Assamese.
