The Manipur government has requested the Union ministry of home affairs (MHA) to hand over the probe into the killing of a former tribe council leader Athuan Abonmai to the National Investigation Agency . Meanwhile, several civil society organisations continued to voice strong condemnations against the murder of Zeliangrong Bau di Assam, Manipur and Nagaland (AMN) advisor and former president Athuan Abonmai and extended solidarity to the bereaved family of the late Zeliangrong community leader. They asserted that Abonmai's contributions to bring together the people of hills and valley will forever remain in Manipur's history.Earlier, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh had admitted security lapses from the part of the police and apologised publicly. As many as 16 police personnel, including the officer in-charge of the district headquarter, were suspended.
