The Central government approved PM POSHAN scheme, which will help providing mid-day meal to students of more than 11.2 lakh government and government-aided schools across the country. The Poshan (Prime Minister’s Overarching Scheme for Holistic Nutrition) scheme will also subsume the essential mid-day meal programme which already exists in schools run by Centre and state governments. Besides, the government said the concept of 'Tithi Bhojan', a community participation programme in which people provide special food to children on special occasions/ festivals, will be encouraged extensively.The government has also decided to extended the scheme to students studying in pre-primary or Bal Vatikas of government and government-aided primary schools.
