A report by the NITI Aayog recently has revealed that East Sikkim has been ranked among the top 103 districts of the Northeast in the first edition of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Index, which measures the performance of the eight states on the SDGs that addresses key aspects of universal well being. Otherhand, Nagaland, which performed poorly in poverty, health and affordable energy, is the worst-performing state overall in the Northeast region. SDG goals include no poverty, zero hunger, good health and well-being, quality education, gender equality, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, decent work and economic growth, and reduced inequality. Meanwhile, none of the districts of Assam, the gateway to the Northeast, find mention in the top ten list.
