After 16 years, the implementation of the Assam Accord was discussed with the Chief Minister of Assam! A meeting held between Government of Assam led by CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and All Assam Students union (AASU) representatives in Guwahati decided to prepare an implementation framework to implement the provisions of Assam Accord with special reference to Clause 6,7, 9 and10. The decision was taken during a meeting held between state chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and AASU in Guwahati.The Assam Accord was signed in 1985, in the presence of the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, between representatives of the Government of India and leaders of the Assam Movement. It involved protecting Assamese cultural, economic, and political rights.The Assam movement was a popular uprising in the state in the 1980s demanding that the Government of India detect and deport illegal aliens.
