The Meghalaya government has decided to shut down schools from class from Nursery to 12th standard in Shillong for the next 14 days starting from today to May 3.


However, the again reiterated that board exams of class 10th and 12th will be conducted as per schedule and all the arrangements have been made to ensure covid protocols are followed during examinations.


The government offices have been instructed to work with 50% attendance and all the restaurants have been asked to encourage more takeaways of food instead of sitting and eating inside.


Public gatherings have been restricted and marriages, other social gatherings would be allowed only after taking the permission from the administration.


Meanwhile, Chief Minister Cornad Sangma termed the situation as serious and said that the government will review these restrictions imposed after 7 days and if needed more restrictions might be enforced in the state to control the situation of covid pandemic .



Meghalaya on Monday(April 19) reported 108 new cases and 1 death from coronavirus taking the number of active cases in the state to 754.
