
Over 42,000 posts reserved for the Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Other Backward Castes (OBC) are vacant in various central government ministries, the Narendra Modi government has revealed. According to the data, there were a total of 78,923 vacant posts under reserved categories in the railways, housing and urban affairs, defence production, defence, atomic energy, financial services and revenue ministries. Centre requested the Supreme Court docket to put down a particular and decisive floor for the Union of India and the states to implement reservation in promotions to the Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) in authorities jobs. Lawyer Basic Ok Ok Venugopal, showing for the Centre, instructed a bench headed by Justice L Nageswara Rao that SC/STs have been sidelined from the mainstream for years and “we have now to convey an equaliser (in type of reservation) within the curiosity of the nation to present them an equal likelihood”. According to the data the total number in Group A, B and C categories in 19 ministries is 15.34% for SCs and 6.18% for STs. The apex court was hearing arguments on the issue relating to reservation in promotions to the employees belonging to SCs and STs.
